OUR SURGEONS

Will my Thailand Plastic Surgeon speak English?

Yes, all of our Thailand Plastic Surgeons are globally recognized and well-educated professionals. They are multilingual and often travel worldwide to give lectures on Plastic Surgery when they are not operating.

What qualifications does my Thailand Plastic Surgeon have?

We work with highly skilled and experienced Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons. All our Thailand Plastic Surgeons are medical doctors who have completed an additional 6 years of highly regulated, specialized Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery training.

What Are the risks involved in Plastic Surgery?

There are potential risks and complications to consider with all forms of surgery. Your surgeon will advise you to give up nicotine at least 6 weeks before and after surgery; avoid alcohol 2 weeks before and after surgery; and ensure that you’re a suitable weight for surgery.

To ensure you are well-informed about your plastic surgery procedure and the associated risks, it is recommended that you conduct thorough and reliable research before undergoing surgery. Our skilled surgeons will address this during your consultation and will take every precaution to reduce the likelihood of surgical complications during the procedure.

Is there a weight limit for Plastic Surgery?

Yes, to ensure your health and safety, our Plastic Surgeons recommend being within a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) range before having any surgical procedure.

BEFORE SURGERY

Will I need to stop my medications or vitamins & supplements?

Yes, certain medications such as Aspirin or anti-inflammatories can thin your blood, increasing your chances of bleeding and slowing the healing process. If you are taking any medication or vitamins leading up to your surgery, let us and the surgeon know. We will send you a pre-surgery checklist which will tell you which vitamins and medicines to avoid once the surgery is confirmed.

Can I fake tan before surgery?

Before surgery, it’s best to avoid fake tans as they can raise the risk of infection. Steer clear of the sun and artificial tans for 2 to 3 weeks before the procedure.

Do I need to remove my fake nails?

Our surgeons like you to have natural nails for heart monitoring. It’s advisable to check with your hospital about their policy on nail polish and artificial nails.

Can I have my period while I undergo Plastic Surgery?

Technically you can have certain types of surgery while you have your period. When it comes to Plastic Surgery procedures, however, many of our surgeons don’t advise it. Hormone levels around your time of menstruation can increase your risk of surgical complications. Some women even experience an increase in natural breast size during this time—a factor that can impact the surgical decisions made for any type of Breast Surgery procedure.

If you think your period may align with your surgery date, see your GP about going on the contraceptive pill. Start on the pill approximately two months before surgery. For those who cannot take the pill ask your GP about another pill called primolut. This can be used to stop the bleeding.

I am breastfeeding – can I still have surgery?

Before undergoing any surgery that requires general anesthesia, you must wait at least six months after breastfeeding.

AFTER SURGERY

Will I need a post-surgery support garment?

Plastic surgery procedures often require clients to wear post-surgery support garments to assist in their healing process. These compression-style garments help reduce swelling and promote faster recovery. While they may be available for purchase at hospitals, it is recommended that you acquire several support garments before your procedure. Your surgeon will advise you on the most suitable options, and you can easily find them online. Typically, these garments should be worn for a minimum of 6 weeks, but your plastic surgeon will advise you on how long to wear them.

Can plastic surgery delay my period?

Yes, in some cases the menstrual cycle can be delayed but the good news is that this is usually temporary. Your body has undergone some stress from your procedure and is now working to recover. As your body recovers from your procedure and stress levels decrease, your period should revert to its usual pattern.

Is constipation common after plastic surgery?

Yes, it is very common. Before traveling to Thailand, consider visiting your GP and obtaining effective constipation medication. The constipation usually passes in a few days.

Is it common to get the post-op blues?

Experiencing post-op blues after a cosmetic procedure is common, especially for clients who have undergone multiple surgeries. It’s normal to feel bruised, swollen, and uncomfortable. Remember that results may not be immediate and complete healing can take weeks or even months. Instead of dwelling on it, focus on the fact that this phase will pass. Keep in touch with your loved ones; hearing familiar voices can be comforting. Share your feelings with your nurse, but keep in mind that this difficult time will soon be over, and you’ll soon be embracing your new self. Stay optimistic.

How long before I can exercise after surgery?

The first six weeks after surgery are critical for recovery. It’s important not to lift anything too heavy during this period, including children, and gradually resume normal activities over the following three months. Each person’s recovery varies, and some may return to their regular routine more quickly than others. Delay those pool parties until your incision sites are fully healed!

How long will it be before I am able to swim after my procedure?

Until your surgeon approves (usually within 3 months), it’s essential to refrain from swimming and prolonged water contact. This includes pools, the ocean, baths, spas, and saunas. After surgery, your suture sites are sensitive. Exposure to water and steam can slow down wound healing, increase infection risk, and cause visible scarring. If you need to be in water before your wounds heal completely, keep it short, ensure your suture sites are thoroughly dry, and change wet bandages.

Particularly in the initial weeks, consider using lukewarm or cold water for showers to reduce steam in your bathroom.

DAY OF SURGERY

Do I need to take identification to the hospital?

You should have your passport with you since it will be needed for identification purposes.

How do I pay for surgery?

You can pay in your currency by credit card, or you can make a payment directly to the hospital. Before you leave for your surgery abroad, it is important that you let your bank know if you are paying by credit card and that you are traveling overseas. This should protect you from having your credit card declined or any unforeseen hassles with money transfers. Procedures are priced in Thai baht (THB) and currency will be dependent on the rate of the day. Check out www.xe.com for your country’s exchange rate.

What will happen on the day of my surgery?

Your hospital transfer will pick you up from the hotel lobby. After finishing your admission paperwork at the hospital, the surgery preparation process will commence. This will involve essential pre-surgical tests (blood, heart, height, weight), along with any additional tests specified in your Treatment Plan.
After these tests, you’ll have a consultation with your Surgeon.

Your surgeon will inquire about your medical history and expectations to tailor the most suitable procedure approach and techniques for you. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have in return. When discussing during your consultation, clearly communicate your goals, honestly share your medical history and lifestyle, and keep in mind that each individual is unique – your surgeon will advise you on what is realistically attainable for your body type and anatomy.

Will I have forms to complete before surgery?

Before your procedure, you will need to fill out the hospital admission paperwork and any necessary forms after you consult with the surgeon. If there are any outstanding payments, you can settle them while completing the final forms, during which time your surgery time will also be confirmed.

What will happen on my surgery day?

Every procedure and person is different but here is a guide.

Before entering the theatre, you will change into a gown or surgical underwear and take off any jewelry, glasses, contact lenses, etc.

  • Your nurse will check your vital signs and place a cannula in your arm so you can be given medicine and fluids to keep you hydrated
  • Your Surgeon will mark the places on your body where your procedure will take place
  • You’ll be wheeled into the theatre on a stretcher and meet your full surgical team
  • Your Anaesthetist will put you to sleep, either via your cannula or through a breathing mask
  • Your surgical team will monitor your health right throughout your procedure
  • You’ll wake up in a recovery room where a nurse will check your vital signs and ask you to clear your lungs by taking deep breaths

Upon waking up, it is common to experience some discomfort and nausea. Inform your nurse about these feelings so that your medication can be modified accordingly. Once you are fully alert and stable, you will be taken to your hospital room to have a meal and start your recovery process. If you have a companion, they will be able to join you at that point.
